Family friendly resorts in Myrtle Beach SC…what can I say about Myrtle Beach?
I’ll start by saying that I have heard Myrtle Beach called the “Red Neck Riviera” and a couple other not so flattering things. I’ll set the record straight for you…IT’S NOT TRUE!!!
Myrtle Beach has come a long way in the past decade. As long as you stay north of the Boardwalk, you can expect to have a fantastic Family Beach Vacation experience similar to any swanky beach in Florida or California. The resorts in Myrtle Beach SC are beautiful and family friendly.
The key is to stay away during college spring break, and biker week and try to stay north of the boardwalk. Do these few things, and you and your family will be happy campers. So go ahead and check out our list of top 5 best resorts in Myrtle Beach SC , you'll be glad you did!
Your also going to need to know when is the cheapest and the best time to travel, if your going to want to get the best rates possible.
I have been to Myrtle Beach many times, but there's 1 gem that I have found, that no others measure up to. It's perfect for families and budget friendly if you go at the right time!
On to the most recent quest to find the best resorts in Myrtle Beach SC…It was January and cold here in North Georgia. I needed to book a vacation and was looking for the best value. The next time the kids would be out of school and the beaches would be warm enough would have to be Spring Break. Luckily for us, our Spring Break happened the second week of April. I checked around and found out that by then, most colleges and other schools had already had their spring break. This meant that the rates should be low and the beaches would not be as crowded..double bonus!
Next on to the destination…I knew I wanted to go to the beach. I needed a tan and some sand between my toes!
I set my budget for $500 total for the hotel. My goal was to find resorts in Myrtle Beach SC, that had at least a kitchenette so I could prepare most of my meals, and was right on the beach with an ocean view. It also had to have a heated pool and entertainment for the kids.
I checked all over Florida and Alabama, what I found out is that most of March and April, the rates were doubled..ouch!!!!! Even with splitting a house or condo, it was out of my reach.
What could I do? The beach was calling my name and I needed a vacation. I checked around and found out that the average temp in Myrtle Beach in April was 74 degrees. I could handle that, warm enough to sit in the sun, but not too hot. Thus began my search for the perfect resorts in Myrtle Beach SC.
I did my research and kept coming back to the same hotel..The Dunes Village Resort. They were running a special, 25% off. Remember, it was January and I wasn’t looking to travel until April.
The Dunes Village Resort runs great special rates the last two weeks of January. The faster they book up, the less time these specials last for. They usually put them out the 2nd or 3rd week of January, so this is a great time to book my Myrtle Beach Vacation.
Get on their newsletter list and the specials will come right to your email. If you find a great deal, book it fast. The rates change daily and you never know what they will be the next day.
The Dunes Village Resort had a room with a 2 queen beds, a kitchenette and a pull out sofa bed for $89 a night plus taxes and fees. With this rate I could go for 4 nights and still be on my hotel budget with a few dollars left over. We had 2 kids and two adults. This room was ocean front and had a balcony with an ocean view. What a fantastic deal!
On the Beach & 2 Indoor Water parks!
The Dunes Village Resort has 2 indoor water parks, indoor and outdoor lazy rivers, game room with ping pong, pool, shuffle board and an outdoor giant chess set, dive in movie nights and daily kids activities-many of which were FREE. Located north of the boardwalk and right on the beach. Perfect!
Next, call my friend and see if she wants to travel with us. I found a great deal and was not going to pass it up. She has a larger family and would have to book two rooms. Anyone with a large family knows how expensive vacations can get if you have to book 2 rooms!
I am determined to book one of the resorts in Myrtle Beach SC ! I do more research and find out that they have 3 and 4 bedrooms available. I found a 3 bedroom Deluxe Ocean View that would sleep both families. It looks perfect for us, full kitchen, washer and dryer, huge living room and 3 balconies. Of all the resorts in Myrtle beach SC, this place was too good to be true!
I tried to book the room online and it would not let me put everyone in. It would only let me book 10 people in this room. So next, I call the hotel directly to talk to a manager and ask if I can have 11 people in the room. I tell her how it won't let me book it online, but the bedding configuration is perfect for the amount of people we have.
Taa daa….speaking with the manager works and she books the room over the phone for us. So now, instead of a 1 room hotel room, we are now sharing a HUGE 3 bedroom suite. The total came to $974 with taxes and resort fees, we split the cost and ended up paying less than $500 per family for a fantastic 3 bedroom hotel suite with 3 balconies, a full kitchen & 3 bathrooms!
The Dunes Village Resort was perfect for our families. It was everything we hoped it would be and more. As a matter of fact, the week we got back from vacation, we booked The Dunes Village Resort again for another one of our Myrtle Beach Vacations.
